Colour Strings

Colourstrings is child-centred. Based on Kodaly, the Hungarian composer, everything starts with singing, to develop inner hearing. Lessons are carefully structured from newborn to aged 5 years, encouraging children to sing, move and experience musical concepts in an enjoyable and stimulating way. The material is joyful and colourful and the children have a wonderful time, clapping, singing, marching, dancing and socialising, without realising that the songs used in classes have been carefully composed to explore the different musical concepts – rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo, character, form and style. By the time they are 5-6, they are able to feel musicality, read rhythm notations and sing from Kodaly handsigns. This is invaluable for any child embarking upon learning to play an instrument.
